Two More Arbitration Wins for Local 4502
Your Union leadership is happy to share that we have received two more arbitration awards in the last two weeks. Both awards represent major steps forward in Union rights and equity.
The first award dealt with how the City can apply terms of sick leave use. The end result is that management does not have unrestricted right to assume an employee is sick or not due to them not being in their home, etc....If you have any questions as to what could lead to potential abuse charges please contact the Union office!
The second award regained a 5 day suspension for a member after being accused of not informing management of a bugetary shortfall. It was clearly shown by Union lawyers and upheld by the arbitrator that management had known about the shortfall and did nothing to follow up on it or correct it until it was a crisis situation. Our CWA member was spared being used as the object of blame!
It is encouraging to see the progress we are acheiving because of our diligence and solidarity. Local 4502 continues to become stronger each time we stay the course and seek out justice. We are currently facing several major issues of contract interpretation that we have grieved and will move forward in to the legal arena if necessary. The specifics of these cases will be communicated in a short period of time. |
