City-Wide Insurance Cost Increase

Each year the City reviews the cost of claims for each group/bargaining unit separately to determine the cost that we as employees pay for our premiums beginning April 1st of each year.  Any increase or decrease to our bargaining unit’s premiums is based upon the cost of CWA members and dependants’ claims in the prior year.
This year we have been informed that the cost for insurance coverage will rise slightly for our group; single coverage will be $47.72 per month and family coverage will be $119.28.  After the 10% pick up that CWA pays on behalf of its members, a single monthly premium paid by a member will be $42.96 or two payments of $21.48 per month.  Family premiums will cost a member $107.36 or $53.68 twice a month.  The increases are $5.42 and $13.54 per month respectively.
Please remember that while we are paying slightly more for our insurance, we still have what many consider as excellent benefits.  With a conscientious attempt to live healthier, we can hopefully hold future premium increases to a minimum and live longer, healthier, happier lives.
