Operation Feed Campaign is Underway!
CAMPAIGN OPERATION FEED
JULY 1, 2010 – JULY 31, 2010
I had the pleasure of attending The City of Columbus training and tour for Operation Feed. Visiting the Mid-Ohio Food Bank gave me the opportunity to witness firsthand the enormous need of our community. With the recent economical state of our country everyone probably knows someone who has personally been affected by the down economy.
The Mid-Ohio Food Bank services the food pantries in our communities; and in turn, the food pantries service the families in need. Without this service there would be many people young and old in our communities who would go hungry.
If you ever get the opportunity to tour the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, please take it. The impact of how this organization helps families and needs the support of the community will stay with you. You may not think that you by yourself can make a difference; but when you see the hundreds of thousands of square feet of food filled to the rafters and know that this is just a 20-day supply of food for the communities the food bank services, it is almost too much to comprehend. You will see that every little bit helps. One thing you may not know is that the food bank also accepts household products, personal hygiene products, baby products, and anything you could use in everyday life.
We were told that one of the fastest growing places where food pantries are being created is in our suburbs; yes, our suburbs. These are some of the people who have lost their jobs and are finding it very difficult to find new employment at their current salaries. No one and no community is immune to falling prey to this terrible economy.
I would like every member to think about the many less fortunate families in our communities and sign up for a payroll deduction even if it’s only $1. If every City employee would donate $1 each pay, it would make such an impact on the lives of our neighbors who live in our communities.
