Joint Labor Management Effort Between Recreation and Parks and Local 4502 **UPDATED on 6-1-10**

The Union is happy to announce a successful joint labor management effort between the Recreation and Parks Department and CWA Local 4502. One of the issues addressed between both groups was Recreation Managers and Supervisors that were laid off last year and recently rehired – just missing the contract implementation date. Technically, this would have meant that none of those rehired employees would have benefited from the 3.5% contractual wage increase that was effective the first pay period of 2010. After meeting with Director McKnight and HR Manager Kate Daughtery, President Bellous and Vice President McCune successfully negotiated a resolution that will get raises to all those members who were impacted. It is a testament to what positive working relationships between labor and management can achieve and we applaud Director McKnight for his leadership!
It should also be noted that in regards to the settlement agreement on the merit moratorium, Recreation and Parks will be granting 2% merits to those who fall in the settlement group. COAAA will be granting 1% merits to those of the settlement group due to funding source considerations. The Union supports this effort by Director McKnight and encourages our bargaining unit members to show their appreciation as well.
