Public Sector Campaign Opposing S.B. 5

Statement and Mission

CWA Local 4502 proudly stands in solidarity with Ohio Labor Organizations in opposing S.B. 5. The truth behind what is being broadcast from the Ohio Governor's office is that Ohio's budget crisis is a result of over 30 years of Corporate, Insurance and banking deregulation. The worldwide economic collapse of 2008 revealed political and corporate interests that cared little for the trillions of dollars of wealth that vanished in that time period. Pension plans and retirmement savings were harmed beyond repair and not one of those at fault were ever held accountable.

In 2011, a new breed of conservative world view philosophy gained governor seats in Wisconsion, Ohio and other "breadbasket" states. A lie was put out through media sources that the state budget crisis was a result of PUBLIC SECTOR wages/benefits! In truth, the state could lay off EVERY single employee and still not have a fraction of the budget deficit corrected. The harm is that citizens who believe the claims being made will only realize less public service; less accountability for government service; and increased costs when private contractors don't produce the bare bones services they promise!

S.B. 5 is nothing short of an attack on middle class America. To eliminate the middle class workers in mid-America, and the Unions who often represent them and hold local and state governments accountable for policy and practice - will give the new breed of world view politician the same tools given to those who caused the economic meltdown of 2008....Ohio citizens need to remember that the financial crisis of this country was not caused by Public Sector employees. None of the hard working people who have dedicated their careers to public service are getting rich, or living in luxury. Those jobs are middle class, working American jobs that provide a LIVING WAGE that allows for ones famiily. Something we should all stand up for.

Local 4502's mission is to educate our members and Ohio's taxpayer on the value public employees provide, and the accountability and efficiency realized through collective bargaining.
